Lost & Found

Black and White Photography (ART 222) | Fall 2020

Inspired by my passion for ballet, “Lost & Found” is a series that tells a story. I aimed to capture how a dancer felt isolated during the Covid-19 pandemic and lost sight of her passion. However, she eventually regained her love for dance once she started moving again.

During the Winter 2021 quarter, I was invited by Cal Poly’s The Subaltern, a student-run zine, to submit the below ballet series for Volume II. It is a “new publication for thought-provoking content shedding light on relevant topics from the community” and includes content from writers, artists, and activists (The Subaltern).

Image 1: She is forlorn.

Image 2: As she prepares to dance again, she stares into the mirror and sees reality.

Image 3: The beautiful satin pointe shoes are one, but she is still unable to freely dance.

Image 4: She has a more pleasant expression, yet she is still confined between a doorway.

Image 5: This is freedom.
