Computational Art

Introduction to Computing (CPE 123) | Winter 2021

As a User Experience/User Interface concentration, I was required to take a few computer science/engineering classed tailored to Graphic Communication majors. Using JavaScript, I created digital art/animations with shapes, parametric and implicit equations, functions, loops, mouse clicks, and more. Two of my favorite projects are below.

For this generative art lab, I utilized a for loop, while loop, and separate draw functions for the snow and trees. The for loop created a more organic appearance to the snow, and the while loop made the trees structured. Each time the page was refreshed, the snow and trees changed position and the trees changed color.

My partner and I combined our individual BlexBolex-inspired scenes and incorporated animation. My half of the scene was the climber, mountains, and stars. We changed elements of our scenes to create a cohesive sketch, such as the mountain colors, adding in a road up the mountain, and adding stars across the sky. If statements were used to animate the biker and climber, and they begin their movement after the page is refreshed.
